Essential Copenhagen for Couples

Nyhavn district
The Nyhavn is the ultimate place to watch the world go by over a wine or Carlsberg.

Fairytale romance

Sometimes the beaten track is the best place to start. Surrounded by stunning architecture and cosy bars with blankets and patio heaters for year-round drinks by the canal, the Nyhavn is the iconic waterside district that once was the home of Hans Christian Andersen, author of fairytales such as The Little Mermaid and The Snow Queen. More recently immortalised in the Tom Hooper film The Danish Girl (2015) starring Eddie Redmayne, the Nyhavn is a cultural hub and the perfect spot from which to enjoy a glass of wine or Carlsberg as you watch the world go by. Romance is tangible here at night.

If food is the way to your heart

Copenhagen is notorious for its exquisite cuisine. Extending beyond its staple seafood dishes, a modern culinary tour of Copenhagen has to include a stop at the food markets of Paper Island (a short walk from Nyhavn). For the ultimate in cosy, Hygge moments - you can't go wrong with Restaurant Grønnegade , a stunning culinary experience with an impeccably welcoming team of staff in a beautiful 17th century building. A truly intimate experience brimming with danish heritage and flair.

Sweet somethings

Coffe and a pastry? When in Copenhagen... Head on a short walk over the river to the district of Frederiksberg to sample the acclaimed pastries of the Andersen Bakery. Particular favourites include the cinnamon swirls. From here you can meander the beautiful streets of the hip Christianshavn district, home to the Church of Our Saviour which features one of the most awe-inspiring church spires in european architecture. You can even climb to the top to burn off that pastry!

Life is a rollercoaster

Looking to spice things up? Copenhagen is home to Europe's oldest (and remarkably terrifying) rollercoaster - called The Roller Coaster - as well as a number of other, more modern thrilling rides in the lush city oasis of Tivoli Gardens. Put your relationship to the test on the terrifying The Demon - a state-of-the-art rollercoaster experience with optional virtual reality goggles.
